Immune Thrombocytopenia

Purpose and method

Introduction
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune hemorrhagic disorder characterized by a temporary or prolonged reduction in circulating platelet levels,
with no other underlying conditions identified to cause thrombocytopenia.

Methodology
Female C5BL/6 mice of 7-8 weeks are injected with anti-CD41 antibody leading to rapid onset of ITP.

Readouts

  • Platelet counts
  • Bleeding time

Application
This model based on the passive transfer of antiplatelet antibodies is perfectly suited to assess efficacy of treatment against immune thrombocytopenia.
