Volume overload induced by aorto-caval shunt

Purpose

Heart failure results from volume overload.

Some ventricular hypertrophy (starts at Wk 20).

 


Method

Create aortic-vena cava shunt using a needle

Study outcome

Cardiac echography (ultrasound measured every 4 weeks)

Biomarkers (troponins, CKMB, ANP, NT-Pro-BNP)

Terminal invasive hemodynamics (BP, HR, ECG)

Propanolol and atropine challenges
